Can a resident request a staff member
of the same gender be assigned to
assist them with their personal care?
Answer
As stated in The Charter of Residents' Rights and Responsibilities a resident of a residential care service has the right:
- to quality care which is appropriate to his or her needs;
- to be treated and accepted as an individual, and to have his or her individual preferences taken into account and to be treated with respect;
- to maintain control over, and to continue making decisions about, the personal aspects of his or her daily life.
Aged care providers should listen to the resident and make all reasonable efforts to comply with this request.
