A respite resident with dementia punched a hole in the wall of his room. Can the family be asked
to pay for the damage?

Answer

The service provider is responsible for the adequate maintenance of their buildings and grounds. If a resident causes deliberate damage then they are held responsible. However, in this case, the resident has dementia and so he cannot be held accountable for his actions.
