Questions about Residential Care

• Can an aged care facility refuse to take a resident back into care after a stay in hospital?
  
  
• When there is no one else available, can a staff member from the aged care facility accompany a resident to a medical appointment?
  
  
• An appropriate health practitioner (e.g. physiotherapist) has assessed a high care resident as needing an air mattress. Should the resident be asked to pay for the mattress?
  
  
• Does the resident or the service provider pay for “over the counter” medical and pharmaceutical supplies?
  
  
• A respite resident with dementia punched a hole in the wall of his room. Can the family be asked to pay for the damage?
